Northern
Shaolin Kungfu
As one of the oldest and most widely practiced styles
of Kungfu, Northern Shaolin forms are very graceful, artistic, yet
explosive. It teaches effective hand and kicking techniques with proper
body coordination. It is unique because it teaches courage and determination
without the aggressive overtones.
Tai
Chi
As an internal style practiced by millions of Chinese
today, this non-strenuous exercise regulates the central nervous system
and helps to relieve mental and emotional stress. Tai Chi training
emphasizes body coordination, balance, relaxation, abdominal breathing,
and smoothness. When properly practiced, it can be an effective form
of self-defense. It is also practiced as a preventative exercise for
stress, high blood pressure, and heart problems.
Self-Defense
At Goh's Kungfu, we teach you how to achieve powerful
self-defense skills by developing speed and focus, knowledge of the
art, and how to overcome the fear of an actual attack. This knowledge
improves one's awareness, courage, and confidence.
Traditional
Weaponry
Gohs Kungfu teaches a large variety of traditional
Chinese weaponry forms. Some of these weapons can be traced back through
2000 to 3000 years of history. Though descended directly from ancient
warriors use of weapons in warfare, todays weaponry forms
combine the practicality of weapons techniques with athletic, artistic
movements.
Each
weapon form has distinct traditional characteristics and techniques
that are related to the weapons shape and practical use. For
example, the broadsword form movements are powerful and fast, while
the straightsword form emphasizes grace and sharpness.
Weapons forms taught at Gohs Kungfu include: straightsword,
broadsword, long staff, spear, Kwon Dao, three-sectional staff, short
staff, double hooks, steel fan, and chain whip.
Contemporary
Wushu
Contemporary Wushu is a sport that is quickly growing around the world. Under the
leadership of the International Wushu Federatation based in China, this exciting sport
now has regular international events where competitors contend against other wushu practitioners
from around the world. At Goh's Kung Fu you can learn and perfect these movements to develop
your form and abilities to one day compete in the World Wushu Championships. Wushu is mainly
for show, you do not learn applications to movements. Classes are focused on flexibility,
strength, and speed training.
Full-Contact
(SanShou) Fighting
The Chinese style of full-contact fighting, also known
as Sanshou, is taught at Gohs Kungfu. While this form of training
may not be for everyone, it provides instruction to students who are
looking to learn about practical and effective fighting techniques
and strategies they can use in competition and for self-defense situations.
Sanshou fighting techniques involve punching, kicking, throwing, grappling,
and combinations, always employed intelligently with the intent of
defeating
your opponent. Classes are conducted at different levels, according
to the students ability and experience.
